TWO caring sisters have been giving back to the local community in the lead up to World Skills Youth Day.

Laura and Emily Leyland – the pair behind recruitment specialists Fresh Perspective Resourcing – are working closely with local schools and the North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce to offer free advice, support and training to students.

According to the UN; young people are almost three times more likely to be unemployed than adults and more likely to be exposed to lower quality of jobs, and longer and more insecure school-to-work transitions.

Last week the sisters were supporting students at St Michael’s High School in Chorley on their two-day Skills for Work Challenge on the topic of Getting a Job.

“Our annual Skills for Work event saw Laura and Emily from Fresh Perspective deliver a careers session to over 200 pupils at school. They both spoke with real integrity and passion about the skills required to get a job. Their expertise in this field really allowed our pupils to develop their knowledge, skills and attributes, which they will need to improve their employability skills” said Amanda Ferguson – Skills for Work coordinator.

“We are delighted that the UN has designated 15th July as World Youth Skills Day to raise awareness on the importance of investing in youth skills” says Talent Acquisition Director Emily, who lives in Bolton.

“In recent years there has been an increase in employers hiring young people in the 16-21 age group, which is wonderful but many of them will only employ them once they have a few years of true work experience. Someone needs to give them that initial opportunity” said Laura, age 34.

“This is one of the reasons why we are launching Fresh Perspective Training” said Emily “to help pass on some of the technical and softer skills to gaining employment, such as CV writing, interviewing techniques and confidence building”

The Leyland sisters are changing the face of recruitment in Lancashire – saving clients up to 50 percent by only billing for time rather than charging traditional placement fees.
